Ben Sheat

General Manager - Self Insurance

Ben has been involved in the personal injury sector for over a decade. Prior to joining the team at GB in March 2017, he gained experience as a solutions-oriented practitioner, technical specialist, leader and senior manager in both the self-insurance and workers’ compensation schemes. Ben started his career as a private practice physiotherapist in Auckland, New Zealand, treating a large amount of occupational injuries and has used this grounding as his approach to claims and people management.

Dr Mary Wyatt

Occupational Physician, mlcoa

Dr Wyatt initially trained in Darwin, beginning in the old RDH and moving across to the Casuarina in the first of a two year stint in Darwin. From here she has worked in Abu Dhabi, in UAE and KwaZulu, in South Africa.

Occupational Physicians spend time at workplaces. Over Dr Wyatt’s career, she has visited over 2,000 workplaces, which gives a lot of insight into work jobs and how workplaces manage people.

Dr Wyatt has been independently assessing people since 1988. As part of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine Policy work, she initiated and co-chaired policy initiatives to explain the importance of being in work, including after work injuries.

Dr Michael Bowles

Occupational Physician, Medilaw Group

Dr Michael Bowles is an Occupational Physician who has been involved in medicolegal work since 1998. Over this time he has provided well over 15,000 reports for a wide variety of referring parties including Lawyers, Insurers, Unions, GP’s, Employers, Employees and the WA Medical Board.

Dr Bowles is an approved medical specialist and can provide a specialist medicolegal report, permanent impairment assessments, fitness for duty and work site assessments.

Dr Richard Williams

Orthopaedic Surgeon (Spinal Specialist), Medilaw Group

Spinal Surgeon Assoc. Professor Richard Willliams practice is solely concerned with disorders of the spine. He is a visiting surgeon of the Princess Alexandra Hospital Spinal Injuries Unit.  Dr Williams has CIME accreditation concerning the application of the AMA Guides 4th and 5th editions. He is on the WorkCover QLD Medical Advisory Panel and has 16 years’ experience conducting assessments for Medilaw.

Jason Elsegood

Director, Cross Cultural Consultants

Jason Elsegood, a proud Aboriginal man of Limilngan and Jingili heritage, has a growing national and international reputation as a skilled communicator and facilitator, with a particular focus on building the capacity of individuals, communities and organisations to work effectively across cultures and deliver sound community & stakeholder engagement frameworks, including Social, Policy and Cultural Impacts.
He is an experienced cross cultural mentor, project manager, client broker and team leader with an Honours in Indigenous Economic and Community Development.

Joan Holschier

Client Programs Manager, PIEF

Joan has extensive experience in managing the design and delivery of postgraduate and vocational programs in corporate and government environments. She has worked closely with corporate clients to design programs that meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualifications and the workforce needs of the organisation . Joan enjoys the opportunity to work with clients to enhance training programs offered to their  employees.

John Deane

Operations Manager, Gallagher Bassett

John has worked in the Workers Compensation industry since 2007. Throughout this time John gained practical experience working as a Rehabilitation Consultant before moving into the claims and injury management with an insurance agent in NSW in 2010.

John held injury and people management roles before joining GB as the Communications Manager in the South Australia start up in 2013. As part of the start-up John was key in establishing the branch operations in customer service, staff capability, sales & account management and was promoted to Service Manager in September 2013.

John returned to NSW in early 2014. Initially he was seconded to the RTW Branch Manager role within the claims operation, before moving into Performance then Transformation Management incorporating the transition communications stream. John was heavily involved in operational strategy and the implementation of the Case Management Conferencing and National Claim Management Models in NSW.

John then joined the U.S. Partnership Team as Operations Manager. He has been responsible for the development, training and implementation of a Best Practice program for GB’s U.S. claims operations.

Most recently John was appointed to Operations Manager of GB’s Northern Territory division.

Katie Thomson

Head of Innovation & Customer Engagement, Rehab Management

A qualified rehabilitation counsellor, Katie has 15 years’ experience working across insurers, brokers and large employers as a vocational specialist.

Katie’s has lead multiple innovative projects through partnerships including Allianz Australia (SeekSMART). Katie has extensive experience implementing customer engagement models and innovative programs through identifying industry gaps and developing appropriate solutions.

Marcus Mancer

Managing Director, Tangibilis Physiotherapy

Marcus Mancer is Managing Director of Tangibilis Physiotherapy and an independent APA Sports Physiotherapist practising in Darwin. He specialises in sports, spinal and occupational rehabilitation with a passionate interest in facilitating recovery through modern practice, education and active self-accountability. With nearly 20 years in the industry, Marcus’s no-BS approach and solid clinical reputation make him a sought-after consultant in compensible injury management in the Northern Territory.

Ralph Bonig

Special Counsel, Finlaysons

Ralph has an extensive background in the provision of advice and advocacy in a range of insurance related areas. His client base is diverse and in addition to insurance its include large corporations, professionals and government instrumentalities. Ralph has acted in complex multi-party professional indemnity claims as well as public liability and catastrophic personal injury claims. He is a past President of the Law Society of South Australia as well as a former director of the Law Council of Australia. In both those capacities he has sat and continues to sit on a number of committees dealing with national issues, including professional indemnity, proportionate liability and the NDIS.

Wayne Stapylton

National Investigations Manager, Allianz

Wayne commenced as the National Investigations Manager for Allianz Australia & New Zealand in 2004. In 2009 Allianz Australia was identified as global best practice for Claims Fraud Management and Wayne was asked to move to Munich, Germany, to be the Allianz Global Claims Fraud Expert, in the Allianz SE claims fraud project.

As the project subject matter expert Wayne established the criteria for Allianz’s global fraud framework, fraud methodology and KPI’s. He was required to travel the world reviewing, establishing and assisting local Allianz entities with their fraud framework.   Although back in Australia he is still requested to fly internationally to review and assist Allianz.

Prior to moving to the insurance industry Wayne was a Senior Investigator, with the NSW Independent Commission Against Corruption, a Detective with the NSW Police and studied Accountancy in the Westpac bank.

His career goal when leaving school was to be a farmer.

General Insurance

Adam Wright

State Manager QLD, Johns Lyng Group

Adam joined Johns Lyng Group in 2014 following an extensive career in Insurance across both Australia and New Zealand.  Adam accumulated 30 years of experience working in the insurance and building related industries, focusing predominantly on the management of property claims, and maintains a passion and commitment to successful claims and repair management.   Adam has successfully managed large scale weather related catastrophe events including both field operations (including external service providers), and dedicated internal claims management teams.

Chris Bennett

State Manager, Crawford & Company

Chris has had dual, parallel careers for the past 25 years in both Loss Adjusting and Emergency Medical Services and has presented numerous lectures to national and international audiences. His extensive loss adjusting experience throughout the United States and Australia as both a Catastrophe and staff adjuster has lead him to his current position as State Manager for Crawford & Company in Perth. Chris’s experience in both fields has allowed him to experience a number of technological advancements and developments first hand as well as their effects on businesses, employees and customer.

Greg Pynt

Honourary Life Member, AILA

Greg graduated from the University of Western Australia with a Bachelor of Laws in 1977 and moved to London in 1981 where he worked for Willis Faber & Dumas, Insurance Brokers. Between 1981 and 1983, Greg worked in the Litigation Department of Clifford-Turner (now known as Clifford Chance) in London. He then returned to Perth and in 1987 became a partner in Mallesons Stephen Jaques (now King & Wood Mallesons). Greg left Mallesons Stephen Jaques in April 1996 to set up Pynt + Partners. He left Pynt + Partners in October 2012. Greg was a Senior Claims Solicitor at Law Mutual (WA) between December 2012 and May 2013 and joined Francis Burt Chambers as a barrister in July 2013.

Greg won the Australian Insurance Law Association Insurance Prize in 2000 and is an AILA Honorary Life Member. He is a Visiting Fellow at the University of Western Australia where he has co-ordinated and lectured in insurance law in the Faculty of Law at undergraduate and postgraduate level since 1991. The 3rd edition of his book ‘Australian Insurance Law: A First Reference’ was published in November 2014. Greg is also the General Editor of the Insurance Law Journal, published by LexisNexis.

Kate Middleton

Kate is a 2017 finalist in the Business News Australia- Young Entrepreneur of the Year awards; and was Winner of the 2016 Women’s Agenda Leadership Awards – Emerging Entrepreneur category.

Martin Maguire

Product Manager, LiveLogik

Martin Maguire was appointed Product Manager of LiveLogik in March 2016, and is responsible for the Live Streaming platform that recently won the 2017 Australian Business Awards New Product Innovation.

Martin has been working with Claim Central Consolidated for more than three years, and has worked across emergency response, customer service and claims administration. In 2015, Martin was promoted to Process Enhancement Manager before becoming the Product Manager of LiveLogik.

Martin’s passion is innovation, customer experience and process improvement. He successfully led the implementation of live video-streaming into the claims management process – the first successful claims management business in Australia to operationalise Live Video.

Martin graduated in 2013 with a Masters in Business Strategy and Innovation Management from Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology, Ireland, and has worked for Century 21 Real Estate, Serco and City Desktop training as marketing co-ordinator and operational support.

Meg Brideson

General Manager of Sales & Marketing, ANZIIF

With extensive experience in all facets of marketing communications, brand strategy, business transformation, customer insights, customer experience and sales management, Meg has worked in a diverse range of industries, including retail, transport, manufacturing and financial services. During her time working in the financial services industry, Meg worked with insurance companies Ansvar Insurance and Austbrokers.

Meg has over 25 years’ experience in sales and marketing and strong experience in business transformation, change management and growth strategies.

Meg’s ability to effectively translate strategy into practical solutions that result in successful business outcomes led to her joining ANZIIF over three years ago, where she is currently General Manager Sales & Marketing.

Meg holds a Bachelor of Arts (Psychology) and a Bachelor of Business (Marketing), as well as an MBA.

Prof Allan Manning

Managing Director, LMI Group

For over 40 years, Prof Allan Manning has managed large and complex losses involving major and complex claims all around the world. Using his experience he now acts as a client advocate on claims, acts as an expert witness, and conducts policy reviews and drafts insurance wordings. He has developed knowledge based services such as PolicyComparison.com, BIcalculator.com, RiskCoach and the business continuity management system, ContinuityCoach.com now used across the globe.

Allan is one of Australia’s most academically qualified insurance professionals having lectured at RMIT, Melbourne, and Victoria Universities and has delivered over 1,200 papers on insurance and risk management topics. He holds the post of Adjunct Professor with Victoria University in the Faculty of Law and Justice, and is the author of 13 books on insurance, including Business Interruption Insurance & Claims; Mannings Six Principles of General Insurance; Understanding the ISR Policy and It May Happen to Me! The Essential Guide to General Insurance. He is currently international president of the International Institute of Claims Preparers and was recently rated in the top 20 most influential people in insurance for the 5th year running. He was awarded the Life Time Achievement Award at the 2012 Insurance Industry Awards and is an Honorary Life Member of The Institute.

Shane Booth

Senior Risk Specialist Property

Shane has over nine years’ experience in the Insurance Industry as a Risk Consultant for Corporate accounts.

Over this period, he has been exposed to a broad range of occupancies including retail, plastics manufacturing, sprinkler protected and non-sprinkler protected warehousing, printing operations, pharmaceutical situations, ink manufacturing and timber milling operations.

Shane has over 25 years experience working as an industrial electrician, including hazardous areas, design, estimating and supervision.

Tony Dodd

General Manager – Sales & Development, GT Insurance

Tony began his insurance career at 17 with FAI, which gave him the opportunity to work in a number of areas within the insurance industry including claims, underwriting and sales.

Tony joined GT Insurance in 2006 and has had various roles within the company leading him to his current role of General Manager – Sales & Development (aka John Vanarey’s lackey!)

Within this role Tony talks to transport operators to understand their business needs and how technology can help transform and enhance their business activities. This includes insuring Darwin’s one and only driverless bus.

Outside of work, Tony’s passion is surf lifesaving and he has been an active member of Point Lookout Surf Life Saving Club for 27 years. Fortunately for beach goers, Tony hung up the Speedos a few years ago and is now a member of the Executive Board.
